Industrial metal detectors form Magnetix

Modern, reliable and easy to use, metal detectors and X-ray detectors from Magnetix work in many industries. They are used, among others, in mines to control rock output, power plants on coaling lines, cement plants, sawmills and chipboard production plants, agricultural produce processing plants and food production plants.

Detection systems from Magnetix detect ferrous and non-ferrous metals in the transported product. They protect process machines against damage caused by metal contamination and prevent production downtime. Industrial metal detectors are also used to control the quality of food products and protect consumers against consuming pieces of metal that are hazardous to health. Detection systems from Magnetix are characterized by very high durability in difficult working conditions. Regardless of whether they work in the food or mining industry, they ensure optimal detection sensitivity and the highest level of product purity.

In addition to metal contaminants, X-ray detectors from Magnetix also detect pieces of bone, glass, ceramics, stones and high-density plastics. They perform a very important function related to the control of food products and meet the requirements of food quality management systems ISO 9001, ISO 22000, HACCP, BRC, IFS. X-ray detectors are characterized by very high precision in detecting foreign bodies and are safe for the user.

How metal detectors work?

The tested product transported on a conveyor belt or in a transmission pipeline moves through the metal detector tunnel. The detector creates a high-frequency electromagnetic field throughout the entire area of the transport tunnel. The electromagnetic field generated by the transmitting coil induces a certain signal in the receiving coil. The metal contained in the product deforms the electromagnetic field lines generated by the transmitting coil, thereby changing the amplitude and phase of the signal induced in the receiving coil. The received signal is analyzed by the detector's electronic system and converted into a metal detection signal. The metal detector detects iron and its alloys, including stainless steel and acid-resistant steel, and non-ferrous metals such as aluminium, copper, brass, zinc, lead, silver, etc. also inside the package.

Industrial applications of metal detectors

  • Detection of metal contaminats in mining ore: limestone, basalt, hard coal and brown coal.
  • Protection of processing machines such as crushers, shredders, mills and screens.
  • Detection of metals at various stages of cement, limestone flour and construction mixture production.
  • Coaling stations in power plants and heating plants.
  • Unloading and feeding stations for biomass and alternative fuels.
  • Testing of rubber ribbon in the production process of car tires.
  • Signaling the presence of metal in logs and wood logs to protect saws and saws.
  • Searching for metals in wood chips and shavings in chipboard production installations.
  • Detection of metals in glass cullet to ensure 100% purity of the input material to the furnace.
  • Metal detection in plastics - protection of extruders and calenders.
  • Detection of metals in food products - meat, cold cuts, fish, dairy products, bakery products, sweets, frozen food, etc.
  • Installations for receiving agricultural products in processing plants (potatoes, sugar beets, cereals).
  • Testing of personal hygiene products and materials used for their production.
  • Signaling the presence of metals in raw materials and components at various stages of pharmaceutical production.

Metal detectors enable the examination of individual packaging and collective packaging such as cartons and boxes. It is also possible to detect metals in products packed in metallized foil.

Why is it worth investing in metal detectors?

A process machine failure caused by metal contamination in the processed product is associated with expensive repairs and forced production downtime. Each downtime carries costs, both direct, related to lost production, and indirect, related to delivery delays, loss of customer trust, and overtime. The investment outlays related to the purchase of a metal detector are paid off as soon as the first unwanted piece of metal is detected, which could cause a serious failure of the production machine.

The costs incurred by companies forced to withdraw products from the market and possible compensation paid for loss of consumers' health are enormous. In addition to the obvious financial costs, companies incur costs related to loss of customer trust and damaged reputation. Installing a metal detector and an X-ray detector in the production line is an investment in building the brand and security of the company. The expense associated with purchasing a metal detector or an X-ray detector is incomparably lower than the cost of withdrawing only one batch of goods.

Specialist advice on detection systems

The metal detectors and X-ray detectors we offer are each time selected to suit your needs and requirements by a team of experienced engineers. We advise on selecting the appropriate detection system for a specific purpose. We review the technological process parameters such as throughput, material granulation, temperature, humidity, dust, explosive atmosphere, aggressive environment. On this basis, we advise on the required detector equipment, IP protection level and anti-corrosion protection method. If there is an explosion hazard zone where the detector is installed, we conduct a detailed risk analysis and assess compliance with the ATEX directive.

We also advise on the proper use of metal detectors and X-ray detectors and train operating staff. We provide the necessary information on the impact of electromagnetic fields and X-ray radiation and help determine safe zones. We do not forget about the most important thing, i.e. detection sensitivity. We advise you how to best position the detector to achieve the maximum level of product purity.
